First Year Musings!

I can’t believe it! My first year of Daughters & Sons Bakery is almost done and it has been an AMAZING year! I opened doors in May and started my season as a vendor in the Linden Hills Farmer’s Market in Linden Hills! 20 Sundays done! Whew that was A LOT of work but it was the most fun I have had in a long time. The other vendors I met, Libby the amazing coordinator, and the many customers who made D&S Bakery a part of their weekly routine made every day (rain or shine) special! I have learned a lot of do’s and don’ts and will be better equipped for the next summer season. I am so grateful for these lessons! As the fall concluded and the cold air set in I did 4 (ended up 3 because of my surprise surgery, ugh) sessions with the Holiday Plate & Parcel market. Another fun experience with lessons learn! So what is new for 2020??? First, pricing! I have evaluated the cost of my incredible fresh locally sourced ingredients and I will be adjusting the costs of my products accordingly (one of those really hard lessons learned!) I absolutely will not compromise quality for cost and I absolutely LOVE the local vendors who I work with to get my products! So, if you want to continue getting those mouthwatering amazing baked goods, you’re going to have to pay a little bit more for them – I am pretty sure you will! Second, timing! I did love the 20 Sundays but my family didn’t! So I am going to be exploring other options for me to be able to continue increasing my brand and customer  base while being able to also enjoy the summer with my children. I will do the market but not as many next year. Be on the look out for me in local stores though – that’s part of the master plan! Finally third, trust in myself and my product! I started off knowing I was a  good baker and knowing that baked goods are only as good as the ingredients used. What I wasn’t so great at was trusting that others will enjoy them as much as they did. I am truly humbled with the love I received from many after eating my products. I was honored and shocked! So now I have a stronger confidence in my talent and will be exploring expanding offerings! I want to also engage my community more so please comment on the various social media sites when I have questions or polls on new flavors. I really do want to make sure you have options to bring joy into your day! So here’s to 2020 and all the Love. And. Cake we can have! Thank you all and have a magical holiday and very happy new year!

Always,

Nneka
